St Novä Scene, Beck journeys with “Prairie Pass”

Philip Beckett “Beck” started his public musical career as a member of Australian Indie darlings Popular Mechanics in 1978, releasing an EP and single before moving on to Samarai Trash. The Trash played the Sydney Pub circuits, releasing 3 singles with Virgin Records (Come Out and Play, Tell Me and Samurai Stomp) the original band went its separate ways in 1986 with version 2 continuing for some time after. Samarai Trash played melodic tunes with influences from folk to funk, rock to reggae, and the catchy pulsing rhythms still underpin Beck’s latest offering “Prairie Pass”. The band played a reunion show at the Annandale in 2017.

Scroll forward to the ’90s where Beck recorded his solo work under the name St Novä Scene, including the original Prairie Pass recording, which was lost to the world when the Underfoot Records studio burnt down, flash forward to 2020, technology & a touch of magic have salvaged the recordings for release. The bird has finally landed in the right place at the right time.

Single & video landed April 2nd, 2021, check them out here: https://ffm.to/prairiepass

Frankie Bouchier’s star is rising with “The Sun”

Sydney, based indie singer-songwriter, Frankie Bouchier weaves evocative stories with sound. As a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Frankie is equally at home balancing a trumpet on his lips or his fingers on the keys. Frankie’s unique brand of indie synth-pop, soars with a drama that is counterbalanced by hook rich harmonies and grounded rhythms. His soundscape reflects a soup of musical influences ranging from the guttural Balkan brass beats of Eastern Europe and the sweeping melodies of traditional Romani music to the psychedelic rock of the ’60s woven with the synch stylings of the ’70s.

“Sound is language, it crosses borders and cultures, the communication possibilities are boundless. I love to listen, I love to make sounds. It begins as an inner conversation and once expressed and recorded there’s the possibility of reaching outside yourself and connecting to others” (FB)

Frankie has been developing a body of work with Underfoot producer Mic. Hardwick over the last three years. “In our first session”, says Hardwick, “I heard such thoughtfulness, intrigue and vision, unlike anything else exactly, delightfully familiar yet quite distinct. Frankie’s songs somehow speak to the core humanity within us all, soulful and full of surprises.”

“The Sun” Frankie Bouchier’s debut single is an enigmatic ride, like early Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett having slipped through a dimensional tear to 2021, a witty and disquieting journey that combines elements of eastern surrealism and catchy beats. Imagine if you will, an Edward Gorey book as a musical soundscape.

Whilst a new face in the indie-pop scene, Frankie has performed alongside Broadway greats such as Patti LuPone, the Voice favourite, Darren Percival, and multiple shows and performances inside Sydney’s iconic Opera House. His sonorous voice saw him as a featured creature in the majestic Lumiphonic Creature Choir, and performances with Pacific Opera in their Young Artists Program 2020. Frankie also spends time as a support worker, musician, and actor for the not-for-profit theatre company Midnight Feast – (Theatre that Unites, an inclusive organisation offering actors with disabilities professional performance opportunities.)

In his final term at the Conservatorium of Music in Sydney, November 2020 sees the launch of his own creations. ‘The Sun’ is Frankie’s debut single, having signed to Underfoot Records earlier this year. There is something timeless in this song, joyful playfulness, an effervescent charm that balances strong musicality with the hooks of modern pop.

Unapologetically original “The Sun’ will be available for all to stream on 20-11-20.

Aspyre Sign to Underfoot Records!

Mateus Brandão And Zachary Meagher, met at school, they say “they wanted to play metal, but only had a computer”- so they started writing dubstep just to try out garage band and it seemed pretty sweet, so they started uploading tracks to Soundcloud and Myspace. The planet spun a few more cycles and  they progressed to Ableton live creating new sounds in space. Now after 4 more years of travelling around the sun they’ve arrived and signed to Underfoot Records. With their progressive, atmospheric, dark grooves the rest will become history! Watch this space!
